At Paste Magazine, Valiant Entertainment has announced its next event series, “Incursion,” will premiere in February 2019. The series will be co-written by comics veteran Andy Diggle (“Shadowman”) and rising star Alex Paknadel (of the critically acclaimed Vault Comics series “Friendo”), with illustrations by Doug Braithwaite (“X-O Manowar”).

“Incursion” centers around the Eternal Warrior and his ward Tama, the new Geomancer introduced in 2014’s four-issue series “The Valiant.” The Eternal Warrior and the burgeoning Geomancer must join forces to battle Imperatrix Virago, a planet-hopping, life-sucking necromancer from the Deadside who is fixated upon Tama and her ability to grant Virago immortality. Virago also has their own ward named Syntilla, who will play a pivotal role in the series.

Co-writer Alex Paknadel describes the relationship at the heart of “Inversion” as a literal reversal of the archetypal adult/child dynamics of classic comics like “Lone Wolf and Cub,” describing Tama as “the most powerful Geomancer who’s ever lived” and “every bit as protective toward [The Eternal Warrior]” as he is of the prepubescent telekinetic prodigy. There will be cameos from other Valiant heroes, but the Eternal Warrior and Geomancer will remain center stage.

Look out for “Incursion” #1 early next year at a comic shop near you: head on over to Paste for more artwork. For more information on Valiant’s upcoming plans, be sure to check out our interview with new Valiant Executive Editor Joseph Illidge from this year’s New York Comic Con.
