Last week, we learned that Victor Von Doom had been cancelled only a week before the first issue was set to come out. Today we’ve learned of the fourth casualty in the War Of Cancellations: DESTROYERS. The news was mentioned on Twitter when a fan asked van Lente about the status of the comic, to which point he publicly responded that it “got the axe weeks ago.”

The book was not be officially “cancelled”, according to writer Fred Van Lente on Twitter, simply because it was never actually solicited. Van Lente also added that the Kyle Hotz, the book’s artist, had already pencilled the first two issues of the series by the time they got the news it was no more, although he also noted that he and Hotz are still being paid for the work put in (so its not a total loss on their behalf). Along with Herc and Alpha Flight, this is van Lente’s third book to be cancelled at Marvel in recent memory.

However, there’s no reason to get too down: Van Lente also hinted of a new book that he is be working on an unannounced book with “an artist (he’s) long wanted to work with.” Given that Van Lente has a spot in the upcoming Marvel POINT ONE book out this week, that could be a hint on the possibility of what could be in the works.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
