Cullen Bunn and Iban Coello are finishing the story they started with “Venomverse” last year with a new five-issue, weekly series called “Venomized” beginning the first week in April. “Venomized” continues the saga of the Poisons, an alien race who consume the kyntar symbiotes and their hosts, only this time they’re invading the regular Marvel Universe led by an alternate universe Thanos and a slew of other Marvel villains who have been assimilated by the Poisons. What’s even worse is that Eddie Brock and the young X-Men are MIA following the upcoming ‘Poison X’ crossover between “Venom” and “X-Men: Blue” which is also written by Bunn.
The story began in “Venomverse” as the newly returned Eddie Brock was summoned into an alternate reality to fight the Poisons, alongside other familiar “venomized” Marvel characters from across the multiverse. “Venomverse” also ran as a five-issue weekly in September following the “Edge of Venomverse” anthology series in August. Another anthology series, “Venomverse: War Stories,” ran alongside the original “Venomverse” and featured work from the likes of writer/artist Declan Shalvey, Nnedi Okorafor, and Magdelene Visaggio. No similar anthology has been announced yet for “Venomized.”
This continues Marvel’s increased output of Venom material after the series was the first to revert to Legacy numbering even before Legacy began. The main series is currently wrapping up “Venom Inc.,” a crossover with “Amazing Spider-Man” before ‘Poison X’ starts in February. May 2018 is the 30th anniversary of the character Venom (although not the symbiote who was introduced four years before Venom in 1984), and Marvel has teased a big Venom story for May following “Venomized” to coincide.
