Originally announced a few days ago (but we missed it — apologies!), the new DC March solicits have revealed a brand new Vertigo mini-series entitled The New Deadwardians. Written by Dan Abnett and illustrated by INJ Culbard, the eight-issue mini features both zombies and vampires — two of the hottest generic villains right now that Abnett apparently “swore (he) would never write” — in the middle of an alternate history detective story set in England, circa 1900.
The solicit information reads:
In post-Victorian England, nearly everyone of the upper classes has voluntarily become a vampire to escape the lower classes who are all zombies.
Into this simmering cauldron is thrust Chief Inspector George Suttle, a lonely detective who’s got the slowest beat in London: investigating murders in a world where everyone is already dead!
But when the body of a young aristocrat washes up on the banks of the Thames, Suttle’s quest for the truth will take him from the darkest sewers to the gleaming halls of power, and reveal the rotten heart at the center of this strange world.
Both we and Vertigo know what you’re thinking — another zombie and vampire series? (Seriously – Vertigo jokes about it in the full solicit for the book.) Yet, with Abnett at the helm and his famous wry sense of humor behind the wheel, one could assume that if he says this is a far cry from all those other zombie and vampire books, it probably is.
Look for the title in March.
