Over at Vertigo’s Graphic Content blog, it was announced today right before NYCC that DC/Vertigo will be publishing graphic novel adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millenium trilogy next year.

The Millenium trilogy, named for the magazine at which Blomkvist works, follow “truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and investigative reporter Mikael Blomkvist” as they solve a series of mysteries together (although in a much less romantic/fun way than that probably sounds). The books have since been adapted into films in the US and Sweden, and according to Larsson’s younger brother Joakim, Larsson was a fan of the comic medium, so hopefully these adaptations do the series justice. Larsson, who originally had plans for seven books in the series, unfortunately passed before the first book was even out, with all three books in this series being published post-humously.

No adaptive writer or artist has been announced yet, but the first graphic novel is set to come next year, with another part of the series coming out each year after that. It will be interesting to see who DC/Vertigo taps as the creative team for the title, but one would hope that Vertigo pulls from the group of creators who have previously worked on Vertigo crime books. It is possible that there will be a more formal announcement this weekend at NYCC as well, so stay tuned for that.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
