First we were given a star, now we’ve been given a villain: Vincent D’Onofrio has been cast as Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin in the upcoming “Daredevil” Netflix series. It’s a key and meaty role, as Fisk is one of the most important and interesting villains in the Marvel universe, especially when people like Frank Miller or Jason Aaron get ahold of him.
D’Onofrio, who has been curiously absent over the last long while save for work on a “Law & Order” spin-off, is a great actor, bringing weight to roles as diverse as the weirdo villain Edgar in “Men in Black” and his terrifying and tragic Private Lawrence in “Full Metal Jacket.” While it looks like he’s went method early in the image Marvel shared of him (tell me that doesn’t look like a really strange mug shot), he’s a skilled actor who can bring the rare mix of fierce intelligence and repulsive sadism necessary to play Fisk.
As per usual, Marvel’s doing a great job casting roles. We’ll see how it all turns out when it arrives, but with Cox and D’Onofrio, this series is off to a good start.
