I think the most surprising thing about the advent of Vivid Superhero, a new movie imprint for Vivid Entertainment (aka the “classy” porn guys), is that it took so long for it to exist. Given that the industry is so quick at making spoofs of basically anything (Harry Potter, Sarah Palin, assuredly Tiger Woods), to not go after the lucrative superhero movie market that seems to dovetail so well with that medium (don’t pretend it doesn’t) was an odd move all together.
Now that the imprint’s lead architect Axel Braun’s Batman XXX is generating a lot of buzz, they’ll be making both awkward fanboys and Vivid investors bank accounts happy with a new line of movies that will include a lot of other familiar faces than just The Dark Knight. As Vivid founder Steven Hirsch gleefully said in their recent press release (via Bleeding Cool):
The parodies under this new imprint will pay tribute to the world’s most popular comic heroes. Axel already started pre-production on a parody of Superman, which will be followed by those of The Green Hornet, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk. We made the decision to create the imprint after working with Axel on Batman XXX: A Porn Parody, an Axel Braun Productions movie to be distributed by Vivid. Axel truly did an amazing job with it, and we agreed that together we could mine the really rich treasure of superheroes and have a lot of fun doing it.
Now, is anyone willing to bet that The Avengers will come out in porn before they do in real theaters? I’d say that’s a lock if I’ve ever heard of one.
