I have a terrible admission to make as a comic fan: I’ve never read a single “Rocketeer” comic. In fact, my only experience with it is the Joe Johnston movie, which I haven’t seen since it was originally in theaters.
However, I can say that I will be getting a second exposure to the character thanks to an upcoming four issue mini-series from IDW. Written by Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee…wait a second, I really don’t need to say anything else. With Waid and Samnee onboard, you really don’t need any other reasons to buy this comic, as Waid has managed to turn the latest incarnation of “Daredevil” into an industry wide favorite and Samnee has future multi-Eisner Award winner written all over him. I would buy a “Howard the Duck” comic from that duo.
That said, the idea of these two creators who clearly love the work of yesteryear working on a comic heavily influenced by the Golden Age? Oh man. That’s perfect.
