Skybound Entertainment have announced that Tillie Walden will be masterminding a new three-part graphic novel series, “Clementine,” as part of the publisher’s new imprint for young adults and middle grade readers, Skybound Comet.
“Clementine” will spin off from Telltale Games’s video game series, The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic series of the same name. Walden’s graphic novel series will be set after the video game and follow Clementine as she, along with a new character called Amos, set out for a community in an old ski resort in Vermont. Clementine did not feature in the original “Walking Dead” comic, and has previously only existed within the video game series; this is set to change when she appears in “Skybound X” #1 this July, with Tillie Walden also helming her comic book debut.
As part of the announcement, Walden stated, “Starting out with a character like Clementine is both a huge responsibility and joy,” and detailed that she “wanted to take her beyond the world of the games, to somewhere new and thrilling (like the top of a mountain!).” Walden concluded by describing Clementine as “a force and drawing and writing her story has been one of the best experiences in my cartooning life.”
Skybound have also announced two other graphic novel projects at Skybound Comet, both of which are also involved in the upcoming “Skybound X” anniversary series, namely: “Everyday Hero Machine Boy” by Tri Vuong and Irma Kniivila, and “Sea Serpent’s Heir Book One” by Mairghread Scott and Pablo Tunica, the latter of which will be the first of a trilogy. The characters and creative teams for each OGN are involved with issue #2 and #4 of “Skybound X,” respectively.
Speaking about the new imprint, Sean Mackiewicz, the Editor-in-Chief and Senior Vice-president of Skybound, stated “The goal of Skybound has always been to create the best comics that bring new readers to the medium we love so much, and Skybound Comet is the next step in that mission.”
“Clementine: Book One” is scheduled for release in July 2022, with “Everyday Hero Machine Boy” to follow in September 2022, and then “Sea Serpent’s Heir Book One” in October 2022. You can check out the covers for “Everyday Hero Machine Boy” and “Sea Serpent’s Heir Book One” here.
