According to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, it looks like Sandman might be coming to television. It’s not the first time this property has been attempted to adaptation, but with DC’s recent diving headstrong into the land of the film, it’s probable that this will really happen quite soon.
In the article, it seems that several producers are in talks with WB to make the show, including Eric Kripke. Who is Eric Kripke? He’s the creator of CW’s Supernatural, an incredibly popular show that ultimately deals with similar themes of magic and horror. Of course, the odd thing is that Neil Gaiman isn’t even involved in the project at the moment, and considering how offended he was at Todd McFarlane and this whole Spawn debate, I’d imagine the project won’t really take off until he gets involved.
It’s an interesting prospect, Sandman becoming a TV show. However, it’s not the only Vertigo property that is supposed to be adapted into TV or film. We’ve heard reports of 100 Bullets, Y: The Last Man, and Preacher all being up in the air for adaptations soon, with Fables supposedly having a show being developed for ABC as we speak. With Sandman being much more heavy than a show like Fables and (arguably) even more so than the Walking Dead, I can only imagine how such a dense and mythological series would work on television, especially since the characters of Sandman interact with characters of the DCU.
Either way, what do you think of this? Do you want to see a Sandman television show? And what network would you think it would be good on? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
