Warner Bros Announces Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Bloggers Scramble to Figure Out Most Humorous Headline

Announced at Variety, it appears that Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as the villainous Lex Luthor in the upcoming Superman/Batman film.

Eisenberg, the hit star of films like Rio and that one scene from The Village, is an interesting choice as many internet pundits had vied for Bryan Cranston to once again play Heisenberg but with more of a Metropolis flare. However, with plot details of the film leaking (apparently involving Superman and Luthor starting a social networking site based on an idea Batman had to help get laid, but Luthor screws them both out of the deal and turmoil ensues), it makes sense why they would go with someone like Eisenberg.

Personally, I’ve always thought the one thing Lex Luthor was missing was a young, nebbish Woody Allen-esque vibe. I’ve said in the past that the only thing that would make Luthor more frightening is if he had the inability to command a room and stumbled over most of his words while looking generally pensive. Nailed it, Warner Bros!

Still. Could be fun. I mean, Ben Affleck is Batman, so who gives a damn? Lets go wild with this.

Additionally, it appears that Jeremy Irons has also been cast in the role of Alfred, which was met with less jokes, less headlines and a general, “Oh, yeah, I guess that makes sense, sure” reaction by pretty much everyone.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
