It seems that Warner Brothers has been fairly quiet about their upcoming DC adaptations but that was ended today at the Hall H panel. After talking about their non DC films, they hit the fans with everything at once. First, they completely confirmed their full movie slate. Coming to movie theaters within the next decade are the following:
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Suicide Squad
Wonder Woman
Justice League (1&2)
The Flash
Aquaman
Cyborg
Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern Corps is brand new information. It was expected there would be a new Green Lantern film but Green Lantern Corps shows that this won’t be a Hal Jordan solo movie. At least, you could assume that. This is pretty interesting because this could allow Warner Brothers to branch out way more with what characters they include. Green Lantern was a disaster so it’ll be interesting to see how they approach adapting this world this time around. Maybe don’t put your lead actor in a CGI mess?
They then ended with a bang. Here’s the latest trailer for Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The trailer starts off by showing us that the destruction from Man of Steel will be an important part of this. It looks like that ends up being the catalyst for Bruce Wayne’s feelings about Superman. This is not as visually dark as the first trailer and we do get our first look at Wonder Woman in costume and in action. However this still isn’t clicking for me. Lex Luthor comes off like a drunk, dirty version of Mark Zuckerberg…which was the exact concern from fans when Eisenberg was cast. As for Batman’s characterization, Snyder was quoted saying “I homage a lot to Frank Miller in the movie, but this is not Dark Knight Returns.” Take that as you will but I am pretty tired of washed up, exhausted Batman. We finally get a movie like this and it’s not a younger and stronger Batman that can really feel like Superman’s best friend.
Whether we’re ready or not, Batman v. Superman hits theaters on March 25th, 2016.
