You know what “works” in comic books these days? Gritty re-dos of characters. The wholesome thing and the triumph is good just doesn’t work for most audiences anymore, and the darker you make things, the more people want to actively see it. On some levels with this take you get smash blockbuster hits (see: The Dark Knight), and although you’ll have a flop or two (The Spirit), the average audience still wants to add a wholesome helping of violence, noir, and drugs with a good side of sex and more drugs in their entertainment.
So now, take what you know of Archie, mix in the soundtrack from Requiem for a Dream and add a slice of Rules Of Attraction and Kids, and you have the Archie movie, Riverdale.
