With its recently announced full series order, the folks at Fox have deemed you worthwhile to see exactly what it is they’re so excited about — and as such, we now have our first official look at the Gotham TV Show.
Starring Ben McKenzie as a young Detective Gordon alongside a not-as-young Hank Dolworth Harvey Bullock, played by Donal Logue, the series seems to lightly emulate the idea of the much beloved “Gotham Central” mixed with “Batman: Year One.” That is to say, it’s all about the hardworking police officers and detectives that keep Gotham running and not Batman — although that’s obviously primarily because this series takes place when Bruce is 11 and his parents have literally just been murdered. Despite no Batman, though, you’ll still get to see Oswald Cobblepot and Selina Kyle in other incarnations, so it’s not completely devoid of your favorite comic-bookery.
The trailer looks relatively decent, perhaps a bit better than expected. Fox is notoriously bad with their shows, though, as they seem very happy to hit the trigger on cancellations if a show even slightly under performs. Still, this series does have the Batman mythology as a tentpole, so it’ll be interesting to see if this can stand alongside Arrow as DC earnestly puts its TV takeover underway.
Gotham begins airing this fall. Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments below.
