We normally don’t do news on the weekend, but occasionally there are things we have to share. This is one of those.
Spied on Midtown Comics via Bleeding Cool, it looks like MC favorite Cullen Bunn is going to be taking over the main title of one of the most famous comic characters of all time — that short Canuck who is the best he is at what he does (with what he does being not very nice), Wolverine!
Jason Aaron will write his final Wolverine issue at #305 before switching full time to Wolverine and the X-Men, with Bunn picking up in April at #306. Aaron was a natural fit to the title with his penchant for grit and grime and dark yet somehow still affable characters, if based only on his work in Scalped, and he managed to take a character who had become quite over-exposed and seemingly un-special and made him relevant again. Given Bunn’s work on The Sixth Gun and his similar habits in characterization with Aaron, it should be a rather smooth transition (although Bunn is really going to have to work on his beard now).
It was announced recently that Bunn would be taking over Captain America And ____ in April, and we recently talked to Bunn about that very subject, yet he made no allusions to us that he was taking over Wolverine as well … that sly boots! I blame too much dialogue on Slapstick.
Either way, congrats to Cullen Bunn on the gig! Look for #306 in April, as you really have no excuse not to buy it.
