Weekend Update: The Infinite Is Quite Finite

We normally don’t do news on the weekend, but occasionally there are things we have to share. This is one of those.

Revealed via Rob Liefeld’s Twitter account, it looks like the Infinite is canned due to creative differences. Issue #5 had been on indefinite hiatus for quite some time due to issues with finalizing inks. Apparently Liefeld was just unhappy with how the issues were looking, and rather than continue arguments or keep fans waiting, the plug has been pulled and the Infinite has sunk.

As Liefeld notes, “Creative differences are the doom of every creative endeavor.”

All things considered, this is pretty upsetting news. It’s particularly upsetting to me, because I had just praised the book to my fellow co-hosts on The Hour Cosmic for being a ridiculously fun comic! While Liefeld’s art is certainly considered quite controversial amongst fans, The Infinite was created by Liefeld and Kirkman as a massive throwback to the 90’s that made Liefeld’s work so damn popular in the first place. It’s a shame that those of us who were fans of the Infinite‘s particular brand of mania will get no resolution whatsoever, especially considering the title had been solicited up through issue #8 in April 2012.

Que sera, sera, as they say.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
