What Happened To The May ’11 X-Men Solicits?

While we didn’t notice this immediately, reports on the internet have pointed out a very interesting thing: most of the X-Men solicits are missing from the May 2011 Marvel solicitations. While we still see the solicit for “cracks of continuity” Gischler’s X-Men and Way/Gage’s Astonishing X-Men, as well as Chris Yost’s special, things like Uncanny X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, New Mutants, and X-Men Legacy are all missing. Instead, all we are given is the following odd solicit (and accompanying image):

X-Men: Prelude #1 & 2 (of 4)
Written by PAUL JENKINS
Penciled by ROBERT DE LA TORRE (#1) & LAURENCE CAMPBELL (#2)
Covers by GIUSEPPE CAMUNCOLI
Before Messiah Complex came Endangered Species. This is the prelude to the X-Men Event of 2011. What does it mean to be a leader? What does it do to a person? What do the choices you make mean about the person you are? This mini-series delves into these issues and will give an X-Men reader what they need to know about their favorite mutants before everything changes in July.
32 PGS. (each)/Rated T+ …$2.99 (each)

The next big X-Event? In the middle of a company-wide crossover (Fear Itself) which itself promises tie-ins featuring a Wolverine-run and Cyclops-run set of X-teams at war with each other?

On top of that, Rick Remender tweeted the day of the missing solicits:

Solicits for May issues of Uncanny X-Force held off for huge announcement of upcoming awesome power. Really is big. Really.

Huh. So a huge event of really big awesome power is coming up from the X-Universe right as Age of X ends, Kieron Gillen takes over the main title and Rick Remender wins over every heart and mind imaginable with the show stopping end of Uncanny X-Force #4? Interesting.

Any ideas as to what’s going on, peanut gallery?

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
