Remember Marvel’s first “Point One” issue? The one that supposedly featured the future of the Marvel Universe in its pages, even though we still haven’t had the Age of Ultron happen?
Well, if you remember the book then you probably remember the Coldmoon and Dragonfire section, in which two brand new characters were introduced by Fred Van Lente and Salvador Larocca, only to never be seen again. It was a bit odd, but sort of par for course; sometimes new characters don’t stick. Besides, it’s not like there was any kind of overwhelming demand for Coldmoon and Dragonfire to appear in books (not to our knowledge, anyway).
Well, in his AMA on Reddit (still going at the time of writing this), Fred Van Lente opened up on the original intent and future of Coldmoon and Dragonfire:
Glad you dug CM & DF. I don’t remember if this is supposed to be a secret or not, but they were created primarily for the Marvel Heroes MMORPG … boost Chinese heroes for that market. So if they’re going to appear next, I imagine it would be there.
Oh, right: Marvel Heroes, the upcoming MMO Marvel is developing in with Gazillion. Seems a bit weird to have cross promotion of this kind, introducing characters specifically for a video game that has no release date, but hey, all’s fair in love and comics.
So there you have it, Coldmoon/Dragonfire Fan Club Members. Look for the duo to return with the upcoming MMO.
