Marvel revealed a new image teasing the arrival of a new Venom in Amazing Spider-Man. Since the end of Dark Reign, it’s been unclear what role Mac Gargan will be playing, but I suppose the one thing that is certain is that he will not be Venom any longer. However, the new design keeps the same look of the new Venom, as opposed to the classic black suit style Spidey and Eddie Brock had.

I think it’s interesting that the press release notes that he could be a “friend,” which would certainly be an interesting change of pace to put Venom back as a somewhat ally to Spider-Man. I suppose it really depends on who is under the suit, although it is also of note that whoever this new user is didn’t feel the need to change up the exterior design much. At the very least it makes the .1 issue more worthwhile of a buy for longterm fans of the book as opposed to just new fans.
