Williamson and Bressan Bring “Birthright” to Skybound in October

Is it just me or does it seem like Skybound has an arms race on their hands? It’s like Josh Williamson is trying his hardest to release more books than Skybound honcho Robert Kirkman himself, although with the latest announcement of “Birthright”, his new series with artist Andrei Bressan at the house that Kirkman built, that actually only makes two for him.

“Birthright” is coming in October, though, and is an intriguing idea that finds a kid named Mikey Rhodes disappearing one day, leaving his family in shambles and nothing but questions in the wake of his disappearance. Upon his return, he’s a different kid altogether, and one with a deep and dark purpose that apparently involves him saving the world to some degree. It’s an interesting concept, and two things strike me from the teaser:

1. Andrei Bressan is an excellent artist
2. Mikey is going to have the worst childhood ever

Seriously. Angels, demons and everything in-between seem omnipresent in his life, which makes the lack of Saturday morning cartoons as the biggest issue other kids face seem like not a big deal at all. Sure, some “Darkwing Duck” would be great, but I’d rather have none of that and no monsters in my life. Seems like a good deal.

Williamson talks to CBR about the book at the link above, and it’s a fascinating read from a great writer. I especially like the parts where they talk about destiny, as Williamson had this to say:

But man if I was told, “Your entire life is, was, and always be about this one moment.” And then I accomplished that destiny — what the hell do I do next? Where do you go from there?

I’m in. You got me Josh. Nice work. “Birthright” is arriving in October. Support your local Josh Williamson in his attempts to take over Skybound. You won’t be sorry.
