Last week “Hellboy in Hell – Volume 2: The Death Card” came out in book stores, and to mark the occasion Dark Horse announced a few of their upcoming Mignola projects for 2017. But we’re not quite done with the reveals just yet; here’s one more, Julián Totino Tedesco’s cover for “Witchfinder – Volume 4: City of the Dead” coming in April 2017.

Flesh-eating corpses and an ancient temple discovered beneath London lead authorities to call upon Edward Grey, Queen Victoria’s official occult investigator. But the sinister Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra also has interests in the underground ruins. When they ask for Grey’s help, he has to wonder if the threat is great enough to team up with a secret society he’s sworn to destroy.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola teams with his new writing partner Chris Roberson (iZombie, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1953) and his original Witchfinder collaborator Ben Stenbeck (Frankenstein Underground) for an occult mystery exploring the darkest corners of London.

We also have a preview of “Witchfinder: City of the Dead” #3 at the end of the article, but first, here’s a recap of all of last week’s news.

• On Monday The Hollywood Reporter ran a video teaser of “The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed.” Keen-eyed viewers would have immediately caught the reference to “Hellboy: Conqueror Worm.”

Confirmation came on Tuesday with the formal announcement on Comic Book Resources.

“The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed” is written by Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson with art by Paul Grist and colors by Bill Crabtree, and arrives February 22, 2017. You can find the full press release here.

• On Wednesday CraveOnline announced “Lobster Johnson: The Pirate’s Ghost,” coming in late March, written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, with covers, art, and colors by Tonci Zonjic. If you ask me, that Bagha Yai character looks familiar…

• CraveOnline also announced “Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1954—Ghost Moon,” coming in early March, written by Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson, with Brian Churilla on art, Dave Stewart on colors, and Mike Huddleston doing the covers.

And the “Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1954” trade paperback should follow later in 2017. Nerdist revealed the cover on Thursday.

It’s always nice to have a Mignola-drawn cover, huh? This trade will collect “Black Sun,” “The Unreasoning Beast,” “Ghost Moon,” and the short story “The Mirror” from this year’s Free Comic Book Day.

• Nerdist also shared an unused cover for “Hellboy in Hell” #9 from the sketchbook section of “Hellboy in Hell – Volume 2: The Death Card”.

• But the biggest news from Nerdist was that “Baltimore” is coming to an end.

Yep, that’s Mike Mignola’s cover for the eighth and final “Baltimore” hardcover. Co-author Christopher Golden had this to say on the topic:

Lord Baltimore has lived a hellish life ever since the night he led an ill-fated mission across a World War I battlefield. He lost his wife and his family, essentially everyone who’d ever loved him, and he set out on a quest for vengeance that led him to reluctantly embrace a larger destiny. He’s always felt damned, always felt like he was marching toward his own doom, but in “Baltimore: The Red Kingdom,” all of the threads of his destiny come together. There’s always been a bit of opera in this series, and “The Red Kingdom” is the final act. The curtain is coming down.

“Baltimore: The Red Kingdom” #1 comes out February 1, written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, with art by Peter Bergting and colors by Michelle Madsen.

• Thursday was a busy day for Mignola-related news. Right here on Multiversity Comics we got to show off Sebastián Fiumara’s cover for the “Abe Sapien – Volume 9: Lost Lives and Other Stories” collection.

• And wrapping up Thursday, Daily Dead had a preview of the upcoming original graphic novel “Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea,” written by Mike Mignola and Gary Gianni, with art by Gianni and colors by Dave Stewart. I’ve been waiting for this story for a long time, and I want to savor it, so I’ve haven’t looked at the preview myself. You’ll have to go to Daily Dead for the preview.

• And lastly, on Friday Entertainment Weekly announced a new “Hellboy” prose anthology in the vein of “Odd Jobs,” “Odder Jobs,” and “Oddest Jobs.” Don’t worry, it’s not titled “Odderest Jobs”—it’s “Hellboy: An Assortment of Horror.” As with the previous anthologies, Christopher Golden has put together an excellent mix of writers: Jonathan Maberry, Seanan McGuire, Richard Kadrey, Paul Tremblay, Delilah Dawson, Laird Barron, Angela Slatter, Chris Priestley, Michael Rowe, Rio Youers, Kealan Patrick Burke, E. Lily Yu, and Weston Ochse. Oh, and Chelsea Cain (who wrote a short story for this year’s “Hellboy Winter Special”) and Chris Roberson (who’s writing so much Mignolaverse stuff at the moment it won’t comfortably fit in these parenthesis). The collection will feature art from Mike Mignola and Chris Priestley.

And that’s it for the news! I believe I promised you a preview of “Witchfinder: City of the Dead” #3, which is coming out this Wednesday…
