DC Comics have announced a new eight-part mini-series called “Wonder Woman: Evolution” by writer Stephanie Phillips (“Harley Quinn”), penciler Mike Hawthorne (“Daredevil”), inker Adriano Di Benedetto (“Daredevil”), colorist Jordie Bellaire (“Pretty Deadly”), and letterer Tom Napolitano (“Dark Nights: Death Metal”).

The mini-series will see Diana be chosen as a proxy for humanity in a series of trials that will test her physically and mentally. The instigators of the trials have yet to be named, but are described by Phillips as beings that “keep all the various planets and species in check,” and only take action when “one gets a little too far out of line and poses a threat;” these beings see “humanity as… a potential threat not just to Earth itself, but to the cosmos.”

Speaking about the series more widely, Phillips stated that working on the series’ characters is “a responsibility and a privilege. I have a responsibility to the characters that I love deeply and grew up reading to do right by them, and it’s such an honor to be trusted with their stories.”

“Wonder Woman: Evolution” is the latest series set to spotlight the character, as DC celebrates the 80th anniversary of her debut in “All Star Comics” #8.

“Wonder Woman: Evolution” #1 is scheduled for release in November. You can check out preview pages as well as the first issue’s variant cover by Riley Rossmo here.
