Marvel have revealed that writer Alyssa Wong and artist Jan Bazaldua will be relaunching the “Captain Marvel” series this October. The new run will see Carol Danvers get captured by an “omniversal entity, who recognizes Carol is the only hero who can stand against its vision of total annihilation,” and determined it must take her out first. Captured, “Carol will need to rely on the reluctant help of a young ally who holds the key to victory!”

Wong, whose credits include “Star Wars: Doctor Aphra” and “Deadpool,” said “I’m so excited to be writing Captain Marvel! Carol is such an iconic character with a rich history, and I can’t wait to add to her story. It’s an honor to work with Jan and I hope everyone enjoys what we’ve got coming!” They will be the first non-binary person to pen one of Carol’s series.

Bazaldua, who previously penciled “Spider-Man” and “Star Wars,” adds, “Captain Marvel is one of my favorite female characters, [and] that’s why I’m very excited to draw her. I have always seen her as a very self-confident woman with nothing she cannot face, and not just because she has super-powers, but because she has inner strength. That’s what I really enjoy about her and why I really appreciate this opportunity!”

As part of the new run, Carol will be wearing a modified version of her Hellfire Gala outfit, which Jen Bartel designed for next month’s eponymous X-Men special. It wasn’t said exactly why, although Marvel noted the design has proven to be a hit with fans online. It homages different costumes Carol has worn over the years, with the primarily blue jacket and pants working in concert with the sleeveless, red-and-black top to honor both past color schemes. The braided ponytail is unique, as Carol typically wears her hair loose, regardless of how long it is, while the earrings seem to borrow from Brie Larson’s look in The Marvels.

The new “Captain Marvel” #1 will be released on October 25, shortly before the release of The Marvels — co-starring Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan — in theaters on November 10. In the meantime, another Captain Marvel series, the five-part “Dark Tempest,” by Ann Nocenti and Paolo Villanelli, will launch on July 5.
