Marvel Comics have announced “The X-Cellent,” a new book from “X-Statix” creators Peter Milligan, and Mike & Laura Allred, debuting in February. It will pit the creative team’s original mutant group, X-Statix, against a new team of wannabe celebrity heroes: the X-Cellent.

“I’m thoroughly X-Statix to be working with Mike and Laura Allred again,” Milligan quipped. “And it’s been truly ‘X-Cellent’ to discover that we’ve lost none of our alchemical fizz in conjuring up this new comic, this new title, this new beginning: The X-Cellent!”

Mike Allred added, “The ol’ gang is back together again! Working with Peter Milligan is always a party. The future is looking brighter for 2022 as we get to show the world how we’ve been playing with our X-Statix Marvel mutants and their new adversaries, The X-Cellent! LOVE these characters! Everyone come play with us!”

Milligan and the Allreds introduced X-Statix’s satirical team of heroes as the corporate-backed X-Force in 2001’s “X-Force” #116, before relaunching the series under the team’s new name the following year. The series ran until 2004, and spawned a spin-off, “X-Statix Presents: Dead Girl,” in 2006. The creative team teased this follow-up in 2019’s “Giant-Size X-Statix” (published as part of Marvel’s 80th anniversary celebrations), which originally promised it would arrive in 2020.

It was not specified how long “The X-Cellent” will run for.
