Writer Ed Brisson (“Extermination”) and artist Dylan Burnett (“Cosmic Ghost Rider”) are bringing “X-Force” back to hunt down their former leader’s killer – who is also their former leader.
In Brisson’s “Extermination,” Kid Cable came back in time and murdered his older self. Now, Cable’s old team, including “X-Force” mainstays Domino, Cannonball, Shatterstar, Boom Boom, and Warpath, is reassembling to make his young doppelgänger pay for his crimes.
But if the series’s first cover, illustrated by Pepe Larraz, is any indication, they (and Deathlok) might just end up working together.

“X-Force are the outsiders within the X-Men,” said Brisson, in an interview at Marvel.com. “They’re on the hunt for this new Kid Cable – some want his head, some just want to talk to him to find out what the hell is going on … There are layers to be peeled back, but nothing is what it initially seems.”
If the series’s concept seems peak ’90s to you, that’s undoubtedly on purpose. Both Brisson and Burnett talked about their love for the original “X-Force” series, which most notably introduced the world to characters like Deadpool and Stryfe, as well as why now seems a good moment to revisit the team.
“X-Force has always been the one X-team that stood out the most for me,” said Burnett. “Being able to bring back the original lineup in a new way is a huge honor. They’re just a bunch of badasses. It’s dope. I’m stoked.”
“‘X-Force’ was mind-blowing to 16-year-old me,” said Brisson. “There was something about seeing the New Mutants, students at the time, ‘graduating’ into their own team. It’s something that doesn’t happen often with X-kids.”
Brisson (who is also part of Marvel’s larger “Uncanny X-Men” relaunch) and Burnett will graduate to the upper echelons of X-dom on December 26, when “X-Force” #1 releases in stores.
