Despite us announcing that Kieron Gillen got Uncanny X-Men cancelled, we are pleased to inform you that starting in November, two books will launch from the ashes of said title: Uncanny X-Men #1 by Kieron Gillen and Wolverine and the X-Men #1 by Jason Aaron.
The event, described as the X-Men’s Civil War, will see Cyclops and Wolverine at odds with one another to the point that a disastrous break comes between the two, forcing X-Men to choose sides over one or the other. While we don’t know what causes the fight yet, it is clearly fairly catastrophic.
The image itself, however, is rather interesting to analyze. Psylocke and X-23 are on Cyclops’ side despite their relations to Wolverine, while Emma Frost casually leans on Wolverine’s shoulder, despite her relationship to Cyclops. The image appears to be cut off from a lager one, but you can also spy Colossus and Kitty on Wolverine’s side as well as Angel.
However, the most odd part of the image? Professor X is back in his wheelchair. Huh.
Axel Alonso also adds that Schism has been an event five years in the making, and is a precursor to yet another event that will occur in 2012 for the X-Men. While on the one hand it’s odd that the X-Men titles are so event crazy, I can’t help but note that the consistency of the events have all been rather great, with Messiah CompleX being one of my personal favorite X-Men stories of the past decade. Here’s hoping Schism keeps the trend up.
