The Eisner Award-nominated writer/artist behind “Séance Tea Party,” Reimena Yee, has launched a new project called “Alexander, the Servant, & the Water of Life.” The project is being released first as a webcomic series, and will then be released by Hiveworks as four graphic novels.

The project focuses on the king of Ancient Greece, Alexander III of Macedon, more commonly known as Alexander the Great, towards the end of his reign, when he starts to fear “the destruction of his pothos – his longing for life, ambition, and eternal conquest – from old age.” With this fear deeply set, Alexander embarks on a quest with his most trusted servant to find the Water of Life. The series’ description teases that there will be “countless fabulous wonders, including glass submarines, naked philosophers, Amazonians, and talking prophetic trees” on the pair’s journey.

Alexander’s achievements have seen him be considered as “one of the most unforgettable figures in world history,” with his life being so frequently fictionalized it has earned its own title, with literary works about the figure being categorized as part of ‘The Alexander Romance.’ However, Alexander’s legacy as a conqueror does not reflect so well from the perspective of those he conquered, and Yee’s series will see Alexander confront “his complex legacy.”

“Alexander, the Servant, & the Water of Life”‘s first chapter is available now, with subsequent chapters set to be released every two weeks. Release dates for the graphic novel editions have not been disclosed.
