If you’re like me, you’ve heard of a little band called the Aquabats, and if you’ve heard of a little band called the Aquabats then you have most assuredly heard of a little show on Nickelodeon called Yo Gabba Gabba! Heck, if you watch the Soup or browse the internet on a fairly regular basis, you’ve probably heard of Yo Gabba Gabba! Well, now all of you who have been just dying for a comic book version of the show have gotten your wish, because W!LDBRAIN and Oni have teamed up to do just that.

The show, which features DJ Lance Rock bringing to life some toys for educational adventures, is a pretty amusing mix of music and some forms of pop culture. The guests on that show have ranged from Andy Samburg to Elijah Wood, as well as people like Mark “Devo” Mothersbaugh and Biz Markie. It’s a very eclectic and entertaining mx, even for adults (or at least the adults who dig [adult swim] content).

How this will work in a comic? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we? I imagine that it will focus more on the main cast of toys versus the crazy world that they inhabit where children randomly dance and run through 2D gauntlets. No word on who the writer/artist team is yet, so it’ll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Oni Press editor in chief James Lucas Jones was an instant fan of the program and immediately saw the possibilities for an innovative and engaging translation to comics. “Seeing the show Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz created was a revelation. These were parents who grew up on the same music, television, movies, comics, and video games I did and it comes through every aspect of the show. In addition to creating a group of charming and iconic characters, they consistently bring in top-notch folks to contribute to the program like Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, House of Fun’s Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer, Biz Markie, the Aquabats and all of the outstanding bands in the Super Music Friends Show. I’m pleased as punch for Oni Press to be joining such a talented and groundbreaking group of creators.”
