The spiritual successor to Nintendo 64’s Banjo-Kazooie is getting its own graphic novel. Dream Prism Press and Fanfare will release “Yooka-Laylee and the Kracklestone” this summer, based on the Yooka-Laylee video game released in 2017. The 128-page graphic novel will be written and illustrated by animation and video game artist D.M. Cumbo, who has previously worked for companies like Fisher-Price, Insomniac Games, and WayForward Technologies.

“Yooka-Laylee and the Kracklestone” chronicles a new adventure for the chameleon and bat duo, who race against the evil Captain B and his top hench-duck, Dr. Quack, to reach the legendary Kracklestone, an ancient artifact said to grant invisibility. Along the way, they accept the help of some unusual allies and encounter friends, foes, and everyone in between, including some fan favorites from the video game.

The Yooka-Laylee video game was released by Playtonic after being funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign. Cumbo has followed suit with the graphic novel, raising over $62,000 last fall from almost 900 backers on Kickstarter.

The graphic novel is available for pre-order now in digital and hardcover versions, including several add-ons like a Yooka and Laylee pin, a character art print pack, a cloth map, and a collectible Kracklecoin. For a preview of the graphic novel, check out ICv2.
