You Stay Classy, Garth Ennis

In a very odd twist, according to the previous frontrunner for the job Samuel Bayer (the new Nightmare on Elm Street) via /Film, Adam McKay of Anchorman and Step Brothers fame is now the leader to land the job as director of the adaptation of Garth Ennis’ and Darick Robertson’s The Boys. What McKay has done in his resume that indicates that this is the type of film that fits his style is completely uncertain (perhaps Billy Butcher and Mother’s Milk will bond over their mutual admiration for John Stamos?).

Either way, it’s a pretty damn bizarre choice. I do not actually read The Boys, but given the fact that it allegedly is set to out Preacher Preacher and that is considered basically unfilmable by many, I’m not entirely certain if this will ever happen nor can I imagine McKay being able to ably coax it to life. But hey, who am I to judge? I could be entirely wrong, and this could end up making Kick-Ass look like shit, but in a way that Matt and Brandon would agree upon. I’m personally hoping the entire movie will be somewhat akin to the news team street fight, but I know that is probably a reach.

More on this as we hear it, as this is very odd news.
