Today, ‘Young Animal’ curator Gerard Way announced that in August, all of the non-“Doom Patrol” titles will wrap up. Way said that this was planned, and that the line will continue in the future with new books. Way gave this statement to The Beat.

“I want to give everyone an update on Young Animal. In August, SHADE, CAVE CARSON, and MOTHER PANIC will end at issue 6 as we originally planned, alongside ETERNITY GIRL. It’s been an incredible run for each of them and I’m so thankful to all the writers and artists who began this journey with me, and who created such incredible stories.”

The concept of the line, a ‘pop up imprint’ was always meant to be temporary, much like a pop up restaurant or boutique, which changes locations frequently and doesn’t hold any real roots. Way stated that the priority for him at the moment was to get “Doom Patrol” back on track. That book, the flagship title of the imprint, has experienced numerous delays, some of which made the first Young Animal/DC crossover, ‘Milk Wars,’ feel more disjointed than it should have.

Way said that once “Doom Patrol” was back on a regular schedule, there would be an announcement about new ‘Young Animal’ titles.

The three ‘ongoing’ series that will be ending are “Shade, the Changing Woman” by Cecil Castelucci and Marley Zarcone, “Cave Carson Has an Interstellar Eye” by Jon Rivera and Michael Avon Oeming, and “Mother Panic Gotham A.D.” by Jody Houser and Ibrahim Moustafa. All three of these titles were the second iterations of these characters/books, all of which launched alongside “Doom Patrol.” August will mark the 18th issue of those titles (6 in their current iteration, 12 in their original form), whereas “Doom Patrol” #12 has been delayed indefinitely.

Along with the ongoings and ‘Milk Wars,’ Young Animal has, so far, produced two miniseries, “Bug! The Adventures of Forager” by Lee and Mike Allred, and “Eternity Girl” by Magdalene Visaggio and Sonny Liew. “Eternity Girl” is set to wrap in August as well.
