Welcome Back to Mine Multiversity: A Marvel Podcast! Each episode we’ll be looking at Marvel books, old and new! We discuss fun Marvel comics, and also Marvel news, Marvel history, Marvel trivia and the best stories Marvel has to offer. Sometimes that includes a weird 70s book where a duck fights a space turnip, an accountant wizard and some dude named Dr. Bong. April fools! But not really.
Make Mine Multiversity is a twice-monthly podcast that premieres on the first and third Friday of every month. It’s more regular than Steve Gerber’s script output by the end of his “Howard” tenure.
We’re back with another book club and this time we’re looking at the classic 1976 series “Howard the Duck” series by Steve Gerber & Frank Brunner/John Buscema/Gene Colan/a whole host of other colorists, letterers, inkers and another writer. Not every issue though. As much as we love being thorough, 31 issues is a LOT to read. We’ll encounter space turnips, presidential ducks, megalomaniacal gingerbread creatures, Kidney Lady, and a whole host of other wacky Clevelandites and New Yorkers while also talking about the just as wacky behind the scenes of this book’s creators.
For more info than what is referenced in the episode, see this link here.
For those reading along at home, we read “Howard the Duck” (1976) #1-8, 30 & 31 which can be found in Vols 1 & 2 of the “Howard the Duck: Complete Collection.”
Next book club, which is the next episode: We’re reading the newest “Howard the Duck” series which should’ve been straightforward but then Hickman had to happen. Dammit Hickman! We’ll be reading “Howard the Duck” issues #1-5 (2015A,) #1-11 (2015B,) and “Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” #6 (2015B.) For trade readers, you can check out the omnibus or volumes 0-2.
