Barry Allen, DC’s first Silver Age hero, led quite a life. His arch nemesis was also his biggest fan from the far future. His wife comes from the even further future. He had the original DC Comics Rouges Gallery. He was doused with every chemical known to man while simultaneously being struck by lightning. He’s a scientist. He dated a movie star. He gave his life to save the Multiverse during Crisis on infinite Earths. But probably the most interesting thing about Barry is the life he took on after death. Post-mordem Barry Allen achieved a type of superhero sainthood that’d be the defining element of his legacy. The Silver Age Flash, infallible forefather of the DC Universe, would become a part of history.
It’s an easy assumption that most current DC fans got to know Barry Allen, if not through The New 52, then through the eyes of his nephew Wally West. It was Wally, after all, who held the mantle of The Flash at the dawn of the Modern Age of comics. This is where this episode’s conversation picks up. What happens when Wally, and the reader, is suddenly confronted with the return of St. Barry?
