Hope Larson’s “Batgirl” has been a joy in its first year. The series has retained Barbara’s youthful energy from the ‘Batgirl of Burnside’ era, but hasn’t merely aped that tone. The series has seen Babs travel to Asia, embark on a really unhealthy romantic relationship, and have a connection to some classic Bat-villains, as well as build some new rogues of her own. All the while, her connection to her new hometown has been emphasized; her supporting cast has been nicely integrated, and allows for Barbara to have a life and a world outside of her father and Batman. With one of DC’s rising stars, Eleonora Carlini, stopping by for issue #12, the book continues to grab a murderer’s row of underappreciated talent, after Rafael Albuquerque and Chris Wildgoose handled the first two arcs. We are thrilled to share an exclusive first look at the issue, which drops on June 28th.
