Buffy is one of the few people cool enough to wear her own name and logo on her t-shirt |
I am a sucker for hardcovers; I truly am, and I’m unafraid to admit that. Comics in floppy form are swell and all, but there’s just something truly wonderful about getting an oversized hardcover collection. The page sizes increased, backmatter that is informative and, forgive me for saying so, matters? As much as buying comics can seem like an addiction, buying the single issues should be equivalent to just smoking marijuana. Buying all the hardcovers? Closer to crack.
That’s why it is both excellent news to me and horrifying news to my (and possibly your) wallet that next year, Dark Horse Comics will begin releasing all of Buffy Season 8 over the span of four oversized deluxe hardcovers. With a team of writers assembled by series creator Joss Whedon including Brian K Vaughan and Brad Meltzer, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was given an extended life in comics after the season finale, reassembling the surviving Scoobies for further adventures in a new chaotic world. As Buffy organizes a new legion of Slayers, a new evil brews in the background as vampires become mainstream and the new “Big Bad” Twilight (the villain, not the book/film series) rears his villainous head to terrorize Buffy, Xander, Willow and Dawn.
The first deluxe hardcover will collect the first ten issues of Season 8; the first five issues are written by Joss Whedon, the second five by Brian K Vaughan (starring Faith and Giles), and all issues are illustrated by Georges Jeanty. The book will also feature two one-shots, a cover gallery, and never-before-seen sketch material to boot. The whole deluxe shebang will hit stores May 30, 2012, with the first collection of Buffy Season 9 (the current ongoing) hitting stores August 1, 2012.
