We like Si Spurrier. Quite a bit, in fact. Whether he’s writing prose or action scientists for Marvel (in which things like this happen), Spurrier is a quick witted writer with a great balance between humor and action that really propels his comics forward. He also writes the continued (and fucked-up) stories of “Crossed” online (in which things like this happen).
So to say we are excited or his upcoming creator-owned postmodern superhero story at BOOM!, “Extermination“, is to put it quite lightly. Starring Nox and the Red Reaper, the book finds the two former nemeses banding together in a world without heroes to drive back the evil invading forces of the EDDA, albeit for drastically different means to ends. Spurrier describes it as a book about “seeing old tropes through very new –broken, scarred and ugly — eyes,” and with “Irredeemable” coming to an end at BOOM!, “Extermination” is likely the thematic replacement here for all your trope-smashing needs and wants for non-Big Two superhero stories.
Really, we were admittedly had at “Si Spurrier.”
With that in mind, today we’re happy to share with you on this lovely morning an exclusive look at the character designs for Nox, Red Reaper and the EDDA by Garry Brown. Check behind the cut to give them a peep, and look for the series to launch in June for the low, low price of $1 for the introductory issue.
