Launching next week in “Judge Dredd Megazine,” 2000 AD will be publishing a brand new creator-owned series within the pages of the book. Entitled “Ordinary”, the book is illustrated by Matt “D’Israeli” Brooker (of “Lazarus Churchyard” fame) and Rob Williams, who gained notoriety here for his Marvel work in “Ghost Rider” and “Daken.” Appearing in issue #340 of the magazine, the book asks: what if everyone on the planet woke up with superpowers except one person? And what if that one person is the key to humanity’s survival on the planet?
It’s not typical for the publisher at all, but when you take a look at the pages below you’ll understand why they’d publish a story like this — because it looks awesome:

We’ve been fans of both D’Israeli and Williams for some time now, so we’re excited to see what their collaboration will bring. Here in the states we don’t get as wide access to 2000 AD comics, but it doesn’t change the fact that these books are massive — both physically and figuratively. With stuff like the above comics present in “Judge Dredd Megazine,” it makes you wonder why we don’t get to see it more often; after all, this is where “Snapshot” by Jock and Diggle and “Numbercruncher” by Holden and Spurrier first appeared, and both of those have seen or are currently seeing wider distribution to American audiences outside of the book from Image and Titan, respectively.
But with the promise that this is going day-and-date digital worldwide via 2000 AD’s site and website, it looks like it’s a good time to take a dive into the megazine if you never have before — whether you do it in a shop or via your digital reading device.
Here’s the official word from 2000 AD:
2000 AD isn’t really known for stories involving superheroes, but we’ve got a new series starting next week which not only has a unique take on the genre, but is also creator-owned, and will be available day-and-date digital worldwide next Wednesday.
This is Ordinary – the next creator-owned series debuting in the monthly Judge Dredd Megazine next week by Rob Williams (Iron Age, Ghost Rider) and Matt “D’Israeli” Brooker (SVK, Lazarus Churchyard).
Ordinary will begin in Judge Dredd Megazine #340, which will be available digitally through the 2000 AD iPad app, DRM-free from the 2000 AD webshop on 18th September, and in print from all good retailers.
What if one day everyone on the planet woke up with superpowers? Except one. Middle-aged divorcee plumber Michael Fisher is from Queens, New York. And has just become THE most ordinary man in the world. But super powers don’t lead to utopia – suddenly every argument, every slight, every crime on the planet leads to massive loss of life, and it soon becomes clear that a cure needs to be found for this plague if humanity is to survive. And the cure is inside Michael, who quickly becomes the most wanted man on the planet.
The Megazine’s creator-owned slot promotes the best new work by some of the industry’s top talents and was already the first to publish Andy Diggle and Jock’s Snapshot, later reprinted by Image Comics, and Simon Spurrier and PJ Holden’s Numbercruncher (recently collected by Titan Comics).
Creators publishing stories in the Megazine’s creator-owned slot receive both a page rate AND full control of their property.
