As you may or may not be aware, in theaters now there’s a little indie film about a man turned robot turned cop called The Robot Cop Who Was Once A Man. It’s a touching little film that explores the ideas of life weighed against death and what it even means to be alive, and is a remake of the classic film “Your Move, Creep”: The Alex Murphy Story

Around here, we tend to just call it Robocop, though. Kinda like how Dave Matthews Band fans just call him Dave, you know?

And today, we present to you an exclusive preview of “Robocop: Memento Mori,” written by Multiversity favorite Frank Barbiere (with the cover by his “Five Ghosts” compatriot Chris Mooneyham!) and artist Joao Vieira. It’s part of BOOM! Studios’ big “Robocop” extravaganza, following the finale of their adaptation of Frank Miller’s last Robocop story. BOOM! is releasing a series of one-shots that both relate and don’t relate to the feature film, essentially making something that is accessible to both the late 80’s classic and the shiny new model, all dolled up in black.

Take a look at a five page preview below:

And here’s the solicit:

ROBOCOP: MEMENTO MORI
Author: Frank J. Barbiere
Artist: João Vieira
Cover Artist(s): Chris Mooneyham
Price: $3.99
WHY WE LOVE IT: With the release of RoboCop, a re-imagining of the all-time classic, fans of the new and old will be immersed in the action, oppression and humanity that is RoboCop. We cannot wait to be first in line for this new motion picture event!

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: Four anthology-style one-shots exploring the world of the new film, brought to you by some of the freshest voices in the industry — Joe Harris (GREAT PACIFIC), Frank Barbiere (FIVE GHOSTS), Ed Brisson (SHELTERED), and Michael Moreci (HOAX HUNTERS).

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: When Alex Murphy goes under the knife, his memories converge with reality. Perception is blurred and his mind tries to cope with the changes forced upon his very soul. Through a distortion of the past, his present horrors loom over him.

The man within must be corrupted to make way for the future of America.

“Robocop: Memento Mori” goes on sale next week.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
