One of our favorite new books of the year with both issues so far garnering no less than a 9.0 from us, the Mad Men of comics “Satellite Sam” by Howard Chaykin and Matt Fraction sees the release of its third issue next week.

Picking up with last issue’s slightly sordid revelation, this issue gives us a little more backstory into the mystery of Kara Kelly’s past and her relationship with Mike’s father. But if you ask me, what really stands out about this preview — and really, the series as a whole — is just how damn well Chaykin and Fraction are working together on this book so far. Chaykin’s period-centric artwork is working wonders towards really selling the darker side of the television world, and Fraction’s dialogue in this preview in particular has a great sense of life and energy to it. I’ll be the first to admit that this book has exceeded my expectations, and in the best way possible.

And here’s the solicit:

(W) Matt Fraction (A/CA) Howard Chaykin
Mike reaches out to the only woman he recognizes in his dead father’s collection of personal girlie snaps, and not only does she have stories about the old man would curl your hair, but she sees a method to the old man’s madness. What if there’s a picture of his killer somewhere in the room where he died?

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
