Captain Atom has one of the more interesting paths to modern comics of anyone still published with regularity: originally a Charlton character, he was adapted into Doctor Manhattan (along with other Charlton characters like the Question and Blue Beetle) for “Watchmen,” but was shortly thereafter a cornerstone of the Justice League. As “Watchmen” has grown in popularity, Captain Atom has become more like his Alan Moore-created doppleganger, losing much of his DCU history.
Well, two of the writers who worked on the Captain Atom ongoing in the 80s, Cary Bates and Greg Weisman, have returned, along with DC stalwart Will Conrad, to give the Captain’s New 52 personality a little more of the classic Captain Atom flavor in “The Fall and Rise of Captain Atom.” We are thrilled to share an exclusive first look at the second issue, which is due out on February 1.

Illustrated by Will Conrad“Past Imperfect” part 2! An overload in the quantum field forced Nathaniel Adam back to the 1990s, leaving him stranded. With no powers and no clear way to get home, he wonders how his presence in the past might affect his future. But if he gets his wish…will that future include Captain Atom?
Thanks again to DC, and make sure to pick up the issue on Wednesday!
