One of our most highly anticipated issues is next month’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” #10, if only for the simple reason that Kevin Maguire is joining the book for the issue (an announcement so exciting we did a weekend update about it). A classic artist responsible for some of our all time favorite comics (including the classic “Justice League International” run), Maguire is an artist we want to see more of all the time always.
So, hey, how about seeing some of his work now? Posted as an exclusive on Bendis’ tumblr as a thank you to fans, we now have our first look at what Maguire is bringing to the table for the issue:

Wow.
That’s almost all I’ve got here, honestly. Just… wow.
Look: there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind here that Maguire is one of the best, and I’m sure we all have longboxes and shelves full of his work to prove it. This just reiterates the point. Yes, the layout does seem very Bendis-y in that the second set of pages offered is just talking heads, but just look at the gamut of expression held throughout. I don’t think it matters what your opinion of Angela in the Marvel Universe is anymore, as just looking at this makes me want to know what her and Gamora are discussing.
Not to mention the initial action sequence, which again seems true to form of the style of comic Bendis has been writing in “Guardians” but never the less is exciting and packed full of intricacies and excitement that improves upon anything of Maguire’s work that we’ve seen before. This is going to be the issue of the series to read, if I can be allowed to completely over-hype it for myself and you.
Oh, I can’t write this anymore. I’ve got to go dig up “Justice League” #1 and re-read it for the thousandth time.
