“Zero” is a book that has taken the comic book world by storm, and it’s because of the unerring gifts that writer Ales Kot, colorist Jordie Bellaire, letterer Clayton Cowles and a cadre of brilliant artists have in crafting truly exceptional comic books. The marriage between the writing and art on this book has been amongst the best of any title on the stands, and Kot orchestrates the events that transpire with a deft touch and enough subtlety to make the powerful moments resound all the more.

The artists have been spectacular, and the rotating pencilers give this book a feel unlike anything else you’ll find on the stands, with Bellaire doing a remarkable job of unifying everything even with the perpetual change. The artist of issue one was Michael Walsh, who introduced us to this world with a spy story set in the midst of a war torn (and I mean that in the most active sense) city. Issue two found Tradd Moore taking us back to the beginning of the life and training of lead character Edward Zero. And issue three – which arrives next week – features the work of Mateus Santolouco.

Now if you’ve never experienced Santolouco’s work, you’re in for a treat. Coming from Brazil and previously providing stellar art in “Mondo Urbano”, “TMNT” and many other titles, the man is tremendously gifted at making every situation feel real, organic, lived in. But don’t just believe me, check out an exclusive six-page preview of “Zero” #3 from Kot, Santolouco, Bellaire and Cowles, and don’t miss this issue. It’s going to be spectacular.
