Tharg the Mighty, editor of all the Progs and Megazines over at 2000 AD, refers to those toiling away under his supervision ‘droids’. Artists are ‘art droids’ and writers are ‘script droids’. But these legions of mechanicals are not the only droids under Tharg’s watchful eye: there are also the A.B.C. Warriors! Thankfully these robots don’t exist in our world, only in the pages of the Progs. But now it’s easier than ever to get your hume eyeballs on two of the greatest Warriors arcs ever done!
2000 AD is releasing the second volume of The Mek Files, reprinting the ‘Hellbringer’ and ‘Khronicles of Khaos’ stories from the early 1990’s. These stories are standout A.B.C. material thanks in no small part to the art of Kev Walker. Although probably known more in the United States for his work on such books as “Thunderbolts”, “Marvel Zombies”, and “Avengers Arena”, Walker brought the painted thrill-power with his earlier 2000 AD work.
For a better idea of what you’ll find in this book, I give you the following from Tharg via PR-droid Molch-R:

Having saved the universe from destruction, the A.B.C. Warriors have chosen to devote themselves to Deadlock’s anarchic religion. To become true agents of Khaos, they must first travel to the planet Hekate, collecting seven heads and a seventh team member before The Night of The Blood Moon. Will the power of Khaos be enough to stop the Terran Empire from obliterating them with their deadly weapon, The Hellbringer? Co-written by Pat Mills (Marshal Law, Nemesis the Warlock) and Tony Skinner (Accident Man, Sex Warrior) this volume of the Mek Files features the sumptuous, fully-painted artwork of Kev Walker (Judge Dredd, Marvel Zombies).

If you want to get a print copy of this in your hands, you will have to be a UK resident or have it shipped to you from the UK via the 2000 AD webstore. While this might seem like what we Americans refer to as “a bummer”, this hardcover is being printed at full Prog-size (8.5″ x 11″) to maximize the thrill-power. Awful nice of Tharg to do that, I think.
But if you want a digital copy, you can get one right now from either the iOS app or as a DRM-free PDF or CBZ file from that same 2000 AD webstore link.
And you can keep up with the latest Progs, Megazines, Specials, and much more over at Multiversity Comics’ weekly column for all things 2000 AD: Multiver-City One. Next week’s Prog 1900, containing nothing but all-new first installments of every strip, is the perfect time to jump on to the Progs and see what all the fuss is about.
