As part of DC’s whole Forever Evil extravaganza, new major baddie Relic — who has a starring book out now — will be pulling all of the books in DC’s Green Lantern line in their latest crossover next month. Ostensibly to put the new Lantern writers in their own place away from the monolithic run of Geoff Johns that defined the series for a long time, the story involves this new villain Relic attempting to rid the universe of every Lantern Corps as an extension of the malfunctions that the Lanterns are currently experiencing.
Take a look at this preview for “Green Lantern” #24 with art by Billy Tan:

I like Tan’s art a lot, but the last event I remember him illustrating was “Shadowland,” which I can’t say I hold in very high regard. That said, Tan Tan’s work here does a great job of bringing out what people like about the large Lantern cast in general. While the backgrounds are pretty sparse, each character is given solid definition within their respective roles in their respective cores; Hal and Kyle both look pretty great, and that final looming image of destruction is a great set-up of things to come.
For what little we know of Relic, it looks like he and Tan are about to bring the thunder. So that’s fun.

This October, “Lights Out” will span across all of the GREEN LANTERN family titles. And earlier this week, Relic’s Villains Month one-shot hit stores and set the stage for this epic crossover event that will change the Green Lantern universe forever.
“There are seven different colors of the emotional spectrum, each of them represented by their own corps. Green Lanterns wear rings powered by will, Red Lanterns rage, Yellow Lanterns fear, and so on,” GREEN LANTERN writer Robert Venditti explained to COMIC VINE. “For reasons none of the Lanterns are sure of, the rings have been malfunctioning lately. Enter Relic, a remnant of the universe before ours, who thinks he knows what’s wrong with the rings and has a solution. Unfortunately, ridding the universe of every last Lantern is part of that solution.”
“The way I describe the story is, it’ll tie together every Lantern of every Corps who has ever appeared in any comic book – ever,” Venditti also told COMIC BOOK RESOURCES about the crossover. “It’s an ambitious story, and our editors have been great about letting us take substantial risks with these characters. We’re holding nothing back.”
