Today CBR News released an exclusive unlettered preview of Marvel’s upcoming Deadpool and Cable #25, but just because the preview itself is exclusive it doesn’t mean your friends at Multiversity can’t comment on it. For those who haven’t been following Duane Swierczynski’s Cable, Deadpool and Cable is actually a retitling of that series for the final issue. It’s slightly sad when an ongoing series’ main protagonist is made the secondary character on the title, but I suppose Marvel is just enjoying the way Deadpool has been selling lately (similarly,Fabian Nicezia’s Cable and Deadpool is being rereleased in trade as Deadpool and Cable). But I digress.
Deadpool and Cable will finally fill the reader in on what happened to Cable in between his supposed death in Cable and Deadpool and his reappearance in Messiah CompleX, two whole years after the event. While I’ve always been curious as to the circumstances surrounding Cable’s return, this simply strikes me as a matter of too little, too late. Thankfully it doesn’t look like this will have too much of a hamfisted approach to continuity, since the preview seems to make it look like Deadpool is contacted by Cable after his “death”, rather than Deadpool helping Cable escape death (which was my fear). Similarly, I hope this can give a reason to why the interaction between Deadpool and Cable in the Messiah War story arc was so out of character (even if it is just an excuse to fix a writing error). All in all, I’m not too excited about this issue, but at least it’s something different than Cable and Hope running away from Bishop again.
