Jonathan Maberry is one of the most acclaimed suspense and horror authors working today. You may know his work from V Wars, Dead of Night, or Rot & Ruin. It is the latter that we are most interested in today, as the first novel in the Rot & Ruin series has been adapted into a webcomic over at Webtoon. Scripted by Taylor Grant and illustrated by Alina Popvici, the series will begin on Sunday.

But fear not, dear reader: we’ve got the full, exclusive reveal of the first chapter for you today.

Please note: due to the way images were sent to us/broken down for web, there is some odd spacing. We feel this is a fair price to pay for getting the chapter 2 days early! We can assure you that, once the series launches on Webtoon, no such spacing issues will occur.

Thanks to Webtoon for the exclusive, and check out the full chapter just beneath the press release!

Created by New York Times best-selling and five-time Bram Stoker Award-winning author Jonathan Maberry, the Rot & Ruin comic series brings his darkly imaginative story to life. “As a long-time fan of both Jonathan Maberry and the Rot & Ruin series, I am truly honored to help bring this thought-provoking and wonderfully imaginative post-apocalyptic story to life as a web comic series,” said Taylor Grant, SVP IP Development. “It is yet another example of Webtoon’s commitment to telling increasingly sophisticated stories that will continue to broaden our reach.”

Rot & Ruin is a coming-of-age story set during a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic America where every teenager is forced to get a job by the time they turn fifteen. For Benny Imura, that job is the last one he ever wanted—to apprentice as a zombie hunter for his overbearing older brother Tom. However, on his journey through the post-apocalyptic wasteland, Benny discovers that zombies are not always the greatest thing to fear, and ultimately, what it truly means to be human.
