“Ultimates 2,” along with “Venom,” is one of the first Marvel books to revert to its legacy numbering, even if this is one of the more convoluted numberings out there, encompassing an Ultimate universe book and this, a totally unrelated series. That said, the move shows that Marvel is confident in the book, which it has earned; under the pen of Al Ewing, the series has stood out as one of the finest team books Marvel has produced in a long time. Ewing is emerging as one of the absolute best writers Marvel is currently employing, and is angling himself to be one of the folks taking over the big events in the future. Or, at least, so we hope. We are thrilled to share an exclusive first look at the 100th issue of “Ultimates,” which is due out on August 16.
