Just yesterday, we published an article entitled Five Dark Horse Comics To Watch For In 2012. In it, I wrote a bit about Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan’s upcoming run on Conan the Barbarian, which is easily one of my personal most highly anticipated books for 2012. Given the collaborative efforts of Wood and Cloonan on books such as Demo or Channel Zero: Jennie One and also given Wood’s previous work on Northlanders (which, as it happens, featured a two-issue story illustrated by Becky Cloonan), Conan is an absolute shoe-in for next year’s Viking Of The Year award.
With sharp writing and even sharper art, it is safe to say that this is the most excited any of us have been for a Conan-based property since we were kids and found out that that buff guy from Terminator was in a movie with some ridiculous lines and lots of head smashing. Suffice it to say, it’s about time a Conan book is given to us that demands our attention.
The solicit information for the book is as follows:
In this sweeping adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s fan-favorite “Queen of the Black Coast,” Conan turns his back on the civilized world and takes to the high seas alongside the pirate queen Bêlit, setting the stage for an epic of romance, terror, and swashbuckling. This is Conan as you’ve never seen him, with the combination of one of Robert E. Howard’s greatest tales and the most dynamic creative team in comics!
* A perfect jumping-on point for new readers!
*A bold, fresh take on the Cimmerian.
* “Queen of the Black Coast” is the most-requested Conan adaptation!
