On Friday, we asked our readers to choose a favorite alternate Earth from Marvel comics. While lots of these parallel realities and divergent timelines got votes, four stood out above the rest to take the top spots in our poll.
With 19.7% of the vote, “1602,” created by Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert in 2003, took the top spot. While the adventures in that setting have been around for nearly 20 years, it is only recently that we’ve seen a significant amount of stories take place there. This is one of the most unique offerings from our list, so it’s not surprising that it ranked so highly.
What was surprising is that first place did not go to the Ultimate Universe, which drew 16.7%, good for second place. Perhaps it is because of the diminishing returns of the line, but for a period of time, the Ultimate Universe was the place in all of comics, not just Marvel, and it is legitimately surprising that it didn’t place at the top.
Rounding out the top three was a tie from Battleworld and the Amalgam Universe, the latter of which we almost disqualified because it is not a purely Marvel setting. We can be sticklers.
Check back on Friday for the next Reader Poll!
