On Friday, we asked you to name which of this year’s nominees for the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series — honoring series published in 2021 — should win the globe-shaped trophy. Winning with 45.5 percent of your votes was Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s “Nightwing” run: already the most lauded series of last year with five nominations, including two for Redondo’s art, the pair’s take with colorist Adriano Lucas is a welcome return to form for Dick Grayson after that unfortunate “Ric Grayson” era, filled with some of the gorgeous art from a superhero comic in recent memory.
23.6 percent of you felt it was time Al Ewing et al.’s “Immortal Hulk” got some recognition from the Eisners, despite the controversies that led to Ewing disassociating himself from the book’s artist before the final issue was released. At the very least we can all agree it was a great book, and Ewing deserves an Eisner not just for “Immortal Hulk,” but for all the fantastic work he’s done at Marvel.
In third place with 14.5 percent was “The Department of Truth,” James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’s lavishly illustrated conspiracy thriller, followed by Tynion and Werther Dell’Edera’s “Something is Killing the Children” with 10.9 percent. Rounding out the five nominees with 5.5 percent was David F. Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Greene’s “Bitter Root,” which previously won the award in 2020.
We’ll see who actually wins on the evening of July 22. In the meantime, check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
